What is CDPAP?

At its core, CDPAP is a Medicaid program that enables individuals to take control of their personal care services. Instead of relying on a standard home health agency to assign a caregiver, CDPAP gives patients the power to select, hire, and train their personal assistant. This means that if a patient prefers care from a close friend or family member, CDPAP makes that possible.

Who is Eligible to be part of CDPAP?

CDPAP is designed for Medicaid recipients who require assistance with daily activities or home care services. Eligibility for the program is determined through a health assessment that takes into consideration the type and level of care required. Recipients should also be capable of making informed decisions regarding their care, or have a designated representative to do so. It’s essential to check with local Medicaid offices or agencies like Advantage Home Care to get a comprehensive understanding of the eligibility requirements.

Can anyone become a CDPAP aid?

One of the most groundbreaking aspects of the CDPAP program is its inclusivity in terms of caregivers. Unlike traditional programs that mandate a Home Health Aide (HHA) certification for caregivers, CDPAP is far more flexible. The only real restriction is that legally responsible relatives (like parents of a minor) cannot be paid caregivers under the program. But outside of this limitation, close friends, family members, or even neighbors can become caregivers
